This truth about Jesus being our Alpha and Omega, our beginning and our end, comes from Revelation as a revelation. All of creation—us included—has its beginning and finds its end in Christ Jesus.
Maybe the founders of Good Shepherd wanted us to focus on that truth by placing the Alpha and Omega windows behind the altar. When we come and when we go, when we pray and when we sing, when we receive and when we give, we can’t miss this truth.
Receiving and giving happen every Sunday (every day, really) as we receive grace, forgiveness, love, communion, peace and more. And we give: our selves, our souls, our bodies. We give our hearts, we give our ears, our praise, our confession, our treasure. Each time we give to God, we give back something that is God’s already.
Already in 2023, your giving back, whether time, talent, or treasure, has shown that you know the spiritual depth of our lives in Christ. Whether it’s our revived Pastoral Care group of over 50 people, or our 60+ Barn volunteers, people give time and talent to our mission and ministry. Your wonderful generosity over-and-above our operating budget made our Barn Campaign a success. For all that, we give thanks!
Now it’s time to turn our attention to our ministry in 2024. Knowing that Jesus is our beginning and our end, knowing that all is God’s and the decision is really about what we give back, we ask you to prayerfully make your pledge for Good Shepherd’s operations in 2024. We have had a healthy and vital year in 2023 (thank you!) and we hope to keep that energy going in 2024. Please let us know your support by filling out this pledge card and returning it to Good Shepherd within the next few weeks.
In years past, we also asked for time and talent cards in this appeal. We are changing our approach this year. You will hear more week-to-week about ministries and needs and ways to get involved. We hope this in-person approach will help make timely connections for all—and keep the energy to serve and be involved going strong.
May our Alpha and Omega windows remind you (whether in person or online!) of our life in Christ, that he is all in all, that Jesus holds all together, and that “all things come of thee, O Lord, and of thine own have we given thee.”
